This is a wine rack that I built for my home from a recycled shipping pallet. The look is based off of a picture that I found while researching projects that I could do with a recycled shipping pallet. Having only a picture to go off of, I had to do a lot of research to figure out what my dimensions should be. When I finally had my measurements, I deconstructed the pallet and measured my pieces in order to minimize my waste and get the most out of my pallet. For the construction, I used a combination of wood screws and wood glue to join my pieces. I opted to keep the screws visible on this piece, as I thought it added to the rustic look, I was going for. I also made it so that the top could be easily removed, so it could also serve as a tray. Once construction was done, I stained the piece with a weathered grey stain and coated it with two coats of polyurethane. When I thought I was done, I discovered that if the wine rack was bumped hard enough, the bottles might fall loose, due to the grooved being too far apart. So, I added leather chord onto the grooves to increase the friction coefficient. This stabilized the bottles and added a pleasant look to the overall piece.
