In 2016, I helped work on the set for a friend’s production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid. In addition to helping to build the set, I was also tasked with making King Triton’s Trident. The director wanted the trident to light up when Triton was using his power. I ended up using LED lights drilled into a wooden trident head, which I had painted with a glittery gold paint. The battery pack which powered the LEDs was hidden in a PVC pipe, which I had spray painted brown, that acted as the shaft of the trident. Also, on the shaft, there was a switch that the actor playing Triton could flip to turn on/off the LEDs.
